Tardor Literària 2026 in Gandia: books, authors and five weeks of culture

From 19 October to 20 November 2026, Gandia celebrates the sixth edition of the Tardor Literària with 60 activities centred on reading, literary creation and cultural heritage.

Over five weeks, the municipal libraries and venues such as the Teatre Serrano, the historic centre and the Palau Ducal dels Borja host book presentations, readings aloud, discussion groups, writing workshops, reading promotion activities and meetings with students. The programme brings together writers, bookshops, schools, associations and local organisations, with activities also linked to poetry, historical memory, bibliographic and documentary heritage and the figure of Jaume I.

At Hotel Borgia we have collaborated with the Tardor Literària since its beginnings, and we are joining again an edition that fills Gandia’s libraries and cultural venues with books and literary encounters.

Meetings with authors

The Trobades amb autores i autors series, with its own poster in the programme, brings together many of the meetings with writers. Note down the dates and each author’s latest work:

  • Carles Fenollosa, Guadalupe Sáez and Muriel Villanueva — 7 November, 12 noon. A three-way conversation: Fenollosa wrote «Guerra, victòria, demà» (Drassana, 2025), a novel of Valencia during the Republic, the war and exile; Sáez, «Tinc un bosc al cervell» (Galés, 2025); and Villanueva, the children’s novel «Capgirades» (Estrella Polar, 2026).

The meeting with Jordi Tormo also gives you a good reason to visit the Teatre Serrano, one of the city’s busiest cultural venues during the autumn.

Opening, libraries and bookshops

The Tardor Literària opens on Monday 19 October at 7 pm at the Biblioteca Central, with the inauguration and the celebration of Women Writers’ Day. The event includes readings of excerpts from works by different women authors by local groups and associations, around the 2026 theme dedicated to the Lyceum Club Femenino.

  • From 19 to 24 October — La biblioteca solidària: book sale at 1 euro, raising funds for the Asociación Española Contra el Cáncer, the Asociación de Familiares de Enfermos de Alzheimer la Safor and the Asociación Parkinson Gandia-Safor.
  • Saturday 24 October, 12 noon — Fiesta de las Bibliotecas in Plaça del Rei En Jaume, with a family concert by Canta Canalla, recognition for the best readers and the prize draw for the Reto Lector reading challenge.
  • 11 November — Bookshops’ Day, with Ambra Llibres, Llibreria Ferrer and Gavina Llibres. The organisers have warned that part of the day could change date because of the general strike called for the same day.

Ideas for children, young people and inclusive reading

Children and young people have their own activities throughout the series, with children’s literary bingo, the «Juguem amb la poesia!» sessions and storytelling activities. The programme also includes meetings with young people, literary visits and routes for schools and workshops adapted to different needs.

The inclusive side comes through the human libraries, where José Figueres and Arancha Segura, from Cáritas Interparroquial de Gandia, share life experiences with school pupils. There are also easy-reading sessions for users of the Fundació Espurna and other activities adapted to different groups.

Exhibition, Nit de Contes and closing at the Palau Ducal

  • From 2 to 28 November — exhibition «El país d’Estellés, l’Estellés del país» in the cloister of the Biblioteca Central.
  • 14 November — XIV Nit de Contes al Palau, at the Palau Ducal dels Borja.
  • Friday 20 November, 7 pm — closing with the presentation of the Premis Literaris Ciutat de Gandia at the Palau Ducal dels Borja. The ceremony recognises the winning works of the Ausiàs March Poetry Prize and the Joanot Martorell Narrative Prize, together with the Joan Roís de Corella Prize for Literary Career, with a musical performance by Óscar Briz and presented by Marina Vallés.

If you would like to round off the outing, you can take the chance to visit the Ducal Palace of the Borgia and wander through the historic centre on the same day.
