The building of the monastery was promoted by&nbsp;Pere March, father of the well-known poet&nbsp;<strong>Ausi\u00e0s March<\/strong> who, as steward to the&nbsp;Duke of Gandia, was in charge of conceiving the construction of the monastery. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Another important literary figure who also frequently visited the monastery was the writer&nbsp;<strong>Joanot Martorell<\/strong>, who was Ausi\u00e0s March&#8217;s brother-in-law. In its time, the monastery became a spiritual and intellectual centre of the Duchy of Gandia.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Later, in the&nbsp;16th&nbsp;century, the monastery had the protection of <a href=\"https:\/\/hotelborgia.com\/blog\/category\/historia\/los-borgia\/\" title=\"https:\/\/hotelborgia.com\/blog\/category\/historia\/los-borgia\/\">the&nbsp;Borja family<\/a>, with the regent Duchess of Gandia&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/hotelborgia.com\/blog\/maria-enriquez-luna-regent-duchess-gandia\/\" title=\"Mar\u00eda Enr\u00edquez de Luna, Regent Duchess of Gandia\">Mar\u00eda Enr\u00edquez de Luna<\/a>, daughter-in-law of Pope&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/hotelborgia.com\/blog\/pope-alexander-vi-borgia\/\" title=\"Alexander VI, the Borgia Pope\">Alexander VI<\/a>, carrying out expansion works.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">This ancient <strong>monastic construction<\/strong> has its roots in the year 1388, with various <strong>architectural styles<\/strong> being distinguishable within it, such as Gothic, Mudejar, Baroque and Neoclassical, which over time have shaped the personality of a building that today can be visited, exploring its<strong> \u200b\u200bhalls steeped in history<\/strong> and its <strong>beautiful gardens<\/strong>, and which is also currently chosen by many people to organise <strong>events <\/strong>such as weddings, concerts or even film shoots.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Among the different areas to visit in the monastery, it is recommended not to miss the <strong>Gothic aqueduct<\/strong> and the Mudejar-style&nbsp;<strong>cloister<\/strong>, the old <strong>chapter house<\/strong>, the stables, the winepress, or the<strong> interesting rooms <\/strong>typical of a monastery such as the <strong>refectory<\/strong>, the <strong>cloister<\/strong>, the former <strong>kitchen <\/strong>of the Hieronymite monks, or the curious armoury, without forgetting the highly recommended <strong>romantic-style gardens<\/strong>, which reach their greatest splendour in spring. Popular legend has it that&nbsp;<strong>Saint Vincent Ferrer<\/strong> preached in the monastery cloister.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"Art_and_Culture\"><\/span>Art and Culture<span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">In addition to historic and beautiful architectural corners, the monastery treasures a large number of <strong>works of art<\/strong> of different types, which are truly worth discovering.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Thus, for example, it is possible to discover everything from a <strong>piece of gold and silversmithing<\/strong> known by the name of \u00abLa Custodia\u00bb, to polychrome <strong>Gothic-style sculptures<\/strong> in the cloister area, as well as works of great artistic value such as a large 16th-century <strong>altarpiece <\/strong>by <strong>Fray Nicol\u00e1s Borr\u00e1s<\/strong>, composed of fourteen parts divided into panel paintings.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Not forgetting, in the Chapter House, an impressive Gothic-style <strong>medieval sarcophagus<\/strong> belonging to the Infantes Do\u00f1a Blanca and Don Juan of Aragon. It is also worth highlighting the presence of <strong>beautiful Valencian ceramic tiling<\/strong> from various periods, between the 14th and 18th centuries.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"Visits\"><\/span>Visits<span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Those who wish to tour the <strong>Hieronymite monastery<\/strong> can sign up for one of the different <strong>guided tours available<\/strong>, which range from the <strong>traditional visit<\/strong> to more specialised ones if, for example, visiting <strong>as a family<\/strong>, with specific activities for children, and even <strong>night visits<\/strong> ideal for summer.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Nor should you forget a curious <strong>dramatised tour<\/strong> recommended for those who want a complete immersion in the monastic era, or <strong>joint tours<\/strong> that add the equally recommended Ducal Palace alongside Sant Jeroni.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The various tours are planned to cover the <strong>most interesting points<\/strong> of the monastery, such as the&nbsp; <strong>entrance courtyard<\/strong> and its beautiful <strong>Gothic-style tower<\/strong>, the recommended <strong>church with Baroque chapel<\/strong>, the
