It occupies a building with a modernist fa\u00e7ade on the <strong>Passeig de les Germanies<\/strong>, Gandia\u2019s central promenade, and hosts theatre, dance, music, opera and film all year round.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<!--more-->\n\n\n\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Its history begins in the early 20th century, runs through a long closure and continues since 2006 with a renovated auditorium. In <strong>1913<\/strong> it was renamed Teatro Serrano in honour of the composer <a href=\"https:\/\/es.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Jos%C3%A9_Serrano_Sime%C3%B3n\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><strong>Jos\u00e9 Serrano<\/strong><\/a> (1873-1941), born in Sueca and known for his zarzuelas.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Serrano composed the anthem of the <strong>1909 Valencian Regional Exhibition<\/strong>, which was later adopted as the anthem of the Valencian Community. The theatre\u2019s name therefore keeps a direct link with Valencian music.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"A_modernist_facade_on_the_Passeig_de_les_Germanies\"><\/span>A modernist fa\u00e7ade on the Passeig de les Germanies<span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The present fa\u00e7ade dates from <strong>1921<\/strong> and belongs to late Valencian modernism. The restoration preserved the fa\u00e7ade and completely transformed the interior to meet today\u2019s staging requirements.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The Teatre Serrano reopened on <strong>27 March 2006<\/strong>, a date that coincides with World Theatre Day, and has since offered a regular, council-run performing arts programme.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"Two_auditoriums_for_different_formats\"><\/span>Two auditoriums for different formats<span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li><strong>Sala A:<\/strong> the main auditorium, with around <strong>600 seats<\/strong> across the stalls and the circles, including four spaces for people with reduced mobility. Film has a strong presence of its own: the <strong>Filmoteca de Gandia<\/strong> screens recent auteur films in Sala B, and the <strong>Inf\u00e0ncia al Cinema<\/strong> cycle brings together screenings designed for children.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The theatre is also the venue for some of the town\u2019s annual events.
