Andrea Martínez Terres, our world kickboxing champion from BoxSafor Club

Andrea Martínez Terres, who competes for BoxSafor Club Gandia, has become junior world kickboxing champion in low kick, one of the ring disciplines, in the -48 kg category, at the WAKO World Championships held in Jesolo (Italy) from 18 to 27 September 2026. At Hotel Borgia it feels like our own victory: we have been supporting the club since 2017.

Today the blog steps away from its usual topics to tell the story of a 16-year-old athlete who trains every day in Gandia, and of the club that has taken her all the way to the top of the world podium.

A world title in Jesolo

The WAKO World Championships for children, cadets and juniors brought together athletes from 74 countries in Jesolo Lido, on the coast near Venice, competing in every discipline of the World Association of Kickboxing Organizations, both in the ring and on the tatami. The competition ran for nine days.

The Spanish team achieved its best ever junior result there, and the figures released by the Spanish Kickboxing and Muaythai Federation give a good idea of the level of the event:

  • 26 medals in total: six golds, six silvers and 14 bronzes.
  • 14th place in the medal table, ahead of countries with a strong kickboxing tradition such as Ukraine, Ireland and Germany.
  • Six world titles, including Andrea’s in low kick, in the -48 kg category.

Her gold is all the more remarkable for one reason. In spring 2026, Andrea had never competed in the ring: her goal was to make her debut in the discipline and qualify for the Spanish Championships. A few months later, she has won world gold in the ring.

From Benifaió to the BoxSafor tatami

Andrea comes from Benifaió, in the Ribera area, and has practised kickboxing since the age of three. She started almost by chance, going along to the gym with her brother, where the coaches quickly spotted her potential. She has been a member of BoxSafor Club Gandia since 2021 and travels from her home town almost every day to train with the club’s technical director, José A. Núñez. Her parents and grandfather take care of the journeys.

She combines training with an intermediate vocational course in sport in Valencia, and she is clear about her future outside the tatami: she would like to become a nutritionist. In her own words, “the most important thing for me is to grow as a person”.

Her record was already impressive before Jesolo:

  • Spanish champion in 2023, after several years of narrowly missing out on gold, and again in 2026 in Point Fight, the title that opened the door to the World Championships.
  • Two golds at the European Cup and a bronze at the European Championships held in Italy, already as a member of the Spanish national team.
  • Number one in the WAKO world ranking in her category in March 2025.

BoxSafor Club, kickboxing based in Gandia

BoxSafor Club works with athletes from across the Safor area from its home base in Gandia. It is led by its technical director, José Antonio Núñez, who in November 2025 received the Coach of the Year award at the 47th Gandia Sports Gala, held at the Teatro Serrano. Under his guidance, the club has built up a steady record in national and international competitions:

  • 2021: four golds, three silvers and one bronze at the Spanish Kickboxing Tatami Sport Championships.
  • 2023: junior bronze for Borja Moreno at the European Championships.
  • 2024: five medals at the World Cup in Jesolo, an event the club attends regularly.
  • 2026: Andrea Martínez Terres’s junior world title.

Why we have supported BoxSafor since 2017

At Hotel Borgia we have sponsored BoxSafor Club since 2017, and we continue to stand by it. We believe in grassroots sport in the Safor and in the clubs that coach young people from the area through consistency and daily hard work. The same idea led us to support Club Voleibol Hotel Borgia Gandia, which won promotion to Spain’s Primera División Nacional in 2025.

We particularly like the way Andrea approaches her sport, with respect for her opponents and friendships that grow out of every competition. Our congratulations to her, to her family, to José A. Núñez and to all her teammates at the club.
